The Ocean View Community Garden embodies the philosophy of Growing Food and Community, aiming to increase the
amount of locally grown food consumed by Ocean View residents and support Hawaii's broader goals of food security
and self-sufficiency. The project will create a community garden at the Ocean View Community Center, providing a
secure gathering space for residents to learn how to grow, harvest, and use fresh fruits and vegetables. Ocean View
Community Association, Inc. (OVCA), will donate the 1/2 acre, provide fencing, water, tools, seeds, plants, and trees,
security cameras and gate locks, access to OVCA's certified processing kitchen, and overall garden management.
Designed on a food forest concept, the garden will include nine 4' x 16' concrete raised beds interspersed with fruit
,and nut trees, edible vines, and demonstration beds of native and medicinal plants. Educational and social events will
be held under a large gazebo. Participants may work in the communal and composting areas in exchange for use of
their garden beds, and excess produce will be donated to the community food bank and the garden's free produce
stand. Committed community partners include the Ocean View Boys and Girls Club, Ka'D Martial Arts, Ocean View Girl
Scouts,'Aina Estates, and the Ocean View Senior Nutrition Program.
classroom, health room, and public lending library. OVCA will contribute the 1/2 acre, fencing, water, tools, seeds,
plants and trees, security cameras and gate locks, processing kitchen access, and overall garden management. The
