In 2,000 characters or less, describe the project.
The Pahoa Lava Zone Museum (PLZM) respectfully requests $9,500 for videography and event security services for the
Activate Puna Town Party & Benefit Concert. Activate Puna is a community -powered celebration rooted in resilience,
creativity, and pride of place. Activate Puna was born in the aftermath of the 2018 Klauea eruption, at a moment
when Lower Puna needed gathering, joy, and a reason to come back together. What began as a single event quickly
grew into a beloved series of town parties that re -energized Downtown Pahoa and reminded us of who we are when
we show up for one another. These wildly successful events draw residents and visitors alike for an unforgettable
evening of art, food, music, dance, and community connection. Activate Puna isn't just a party; it's a catalyst. A place
to feel good, reconnect, and celebrate all that Lower Puna has to offer. It's always been a party with a purpose. On
May 9th, Downtown Pahoa transforms into a vibrant, open-air celebration drawing more than 6,000 residents and
visitors to the heart of Lower Puna. The former Akebono Theater and Luquin's Restaurant property — now home to
Hale Halawai O Puna — will come alive with live music, art, food, and the unmistakable energy of a community that
shows up for itself. The activation spans a street closure with arts and craft vendors, and two connected properties:
the main venue at Hale Halawai 0 Puna featuring the entertainment stage, food trucks, a beer garden, and a VIP
section, with additional food pop -ups on the neighboring YBA property.
*43. 501(c)(3) Mission Statement
The Pahoa Lava Zone Museum aims to educate visitors about the geological wonders of Hawaii, specifically the impact
of volcanic activity on the Puna region, and to foster a sense of community stewardship for these culturally and
environmentally sensitive areas. It also seeks to support the local economy by promoting sustainable tourism and
cultural engagement.
*44. In 1,000 characters or less, explain how the 501(c)(3) is connected to the project.
The Pahoa Lava Zone Museum, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, has been one of the main supporters of Activate Puna. This
initiative aligns with PLZMs' mission to preserve and uplift the cultural, historical, and economic resilience of the Puna
region.
* 45. Please upload a completed CRF Grant Budget Form.
CRF Activate Puna 2024 CD4.xlsx
Public Purpose of Requested Funds
Per §2-138 of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), the County may grant an award only if the
proposed program or service provides direct public benefits and fulfills a public purpose within the County.
