UNITED STATES POSTAL INSPECTION SERVICE <br />(9). <br />TASK FORCE OFFICER (TFO) - DESIGNATION <br />Pursuant to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. § 3061 and as delegated, and by agreement with your employing <br />agency, you are hereby designated a Postal Inspector Task Force Officer (TFO) without additional <br />compensation. This designation, for the performance of such duties as outlined below, will be in effect while <br />you remain in your present position and location, unless revoked at an earlier date. In performing the duties of a <br />TFO, you will be subject to guidelines, directives, and instructions of the U. S. Postal Service (USPS) and U.S. <br />Postal Inspection Service (USPIS). TFO Status: <br />TFOs must average at least 24 work hours per week on USPIS investigations each month to maintain their TFO status. <br />TFOs shall be governed by their employing agency's policies concerning time and attendance. <br />TFOs may obtain overtime pay for hours worked in excess of their contractually required hours per shift with their parent agency or for work in <br />excess of 40 hours per week. To qualify for overtime reimbursement, all overtime hours must be worked on USPIS investigations. <br />All TFOs must be domiciled in a USPIS domicile permanently staffed with at least one postal inspector barring an exception from the Chief <br />Postal Inspector. <br />TFOs must obtain and maintain a favorable adjudication at the Background Investigation — High Risk (BI) level. <br />13. Authorities Granted: <br />The following duties are authorized for the TFO: <br />Carry a firearm, in accordance with federal law, that he or she is authorized and qualified to carry by his or her parent agency while on <br />duty. <br />Execute and serve orders, search warrants, arrest warrants, subpoenas, summonses, and other processes issued under the authority <br />of the United States, in accordance with laws administered and/or enforced by USPIS. <br />Make arrests without warrant for felonies cognizable under the laws of the United States if they have reasonable grounds to believe <br />that the person to be arrested has committed or is committing such a felony. <br />Perform other law enforcement duties which may be authorized under 18 U.S.C. § 3061. <br />Make seizures of property as provided by law. <br />Other authorities: <br />IS Form 506 <br />UPDATED 09.22.2025 Pg. 1 of 2 <br />All previous versions of this form are obsolete <br />
