In 2,000 characters or less, describe the project.
The Hawai'i International Futsal Cup provides a platform for athletes to play futsal at a high level and participate in a
well -organized event. Being on an island, these athletes often have to travel to gain exposure, access higher levels of
competition, and be showcased. The organizers aimed to bring this opportunity to Big Island youth by creating a high -
quality event locally. Since its inception in Kona about five years ago, the event has grown exponentially from a small
local tournament into an international competition. It now includes close to 600 participants from the islands, the
mainland, and Japan, across multiple age divisions from youth to adult players. The tournament also provides local
participants with opportunities to observe and compete alongside high-level and semi-professional athletes. The
County of Hawaii, along with Hawaii Futsal and the Wego! Foundation, Inc., will host the 2026 Hawaii International
Futsal Cup. The tournament is scheduled for August 21-23, 2026, at Edith Kanaka'ole Multi -Purpose Stadium, Afook-
Chinen Civic Auditorium, and Pana'ewa Park. With support from HM-A Better Ways Tours, the event brings in
international talent while fostering cultural exchange and strengthening relationships, particularly between Hawaii and
Japan. Requested funds from the current fiscal year will be used to cover pre -event preparation, including securing
venues, coordinating logistics, and arranging equipment and materials necessary for the tournament.
*43. 501(c)(3) Mission Statement
To provide a support network for athletically talented and needy youth from underserved homes in our community,
and help them pursue their passion and become productive citizens.
* 44.
