If continuing Akolea Road alignment towazd Hamakua, a proposed 80-foot <br /> wide bridge over Waiau Stream between Wailuku River and Amauulu Road <br /> would be approximately 350 feet in length. Cost is estimated at $13 million <br /> including abutment and piers. In addition, from Wailuku River to Amauulu <br /> Road, there aze seven crossings which may be improved with culverts similar <br /> to the one on Komohana Street over Aleanio Stream. Estimated average cost <br /> for each crossing is $.5 million. (See enclosed Map) <br /> We also enclose a copy of a memorandum dated April 18, 1997 from Real Property Tax <br /> Division, providing 1997 assessed values for the land and/or building for properties affected <br /> by the proposed Komohana Street Extension alignment. <br /> Based on our site inspection of the proposed Komohana Street Extension alignment, Akolea <br /> Road and Wailuku River, information provided on approximate costs to construct a bridge <br /> over Wailuku River and assessed values for lands and/or buildings, we hereby reconsider the <br /> findings of the subject feasibility study. At this point in time, the approximate cost to <br /> construct a bridge over Wailuku River and possible acquisition of the affected properties at <br /> the Komohana Street Extension alignment would be at a lesser expense than to construct a <br /> bridge and other culvert improvements at the Akolea Road alignment. Therefore, we have <br /> determined that the proposed Komohana Street Extension alignment from its intersection with <br /> Waianuenue Avenue to and over Wailuku River and onto lands on the Hamakua side of <br /> Wailuku River be maintained as delineated on the General Plan Facilities Map and the City <br /> of Hilo Zone Map.
