The current fuel tax rate for Hawaii County is $0.088 per gallon. The portion of that <br /> tax dedicatee to repaving by Highway Division and larger projects managed by <br /> engineering Division is X0,038. The balance of the fuel tax, as well as other taxes <br /> and revenuew fund the operations of the Highway and Traffic Divisions. Increasing <br /> the staffing ~ Highway to provide improved maintenance of roadways and taking on <br /> the additional responsibility of "roads in limbo" will require an increase in the current <br /> fuel tax rates. which are the lowest in the state. <br /> Traffic Division <br /> The attached memo addresses cost savings to be realized by switching from 100 <br /> watt incandescent lamps to 10 watt ~,~Ds. <br /> County Daseyard <br /> The Public Works Director will meet with the Mayor to discuss the use of baseyard <br /> facilities by tl~e HC~UC. <br /> ~n ineerin Division <br /> engineering ~~vill set up a meeting between Mr. Tyler and the cansultant on the Palani <br /> Road project. Documentation of the meeting with the consultant on Ali`I Highway <br /> project was sent previously. <br /> <br /> The Department of Public Works is very interested in accessing additional funds to <br /> assist in watershed management and flood control. We will consider various <br /> potential sources, including FNMA. A workshop is scheduled for May (see attached}. <br /> ~uildinc~ Division -The division estimates that it will take approximately 2000 man- <br /> haurs to inpu< previously assigned house numbers, which have not been cataloged. <br /> <br /> They will investigate use of a temporary `vorker far the project. (Memo attached.} <br /> Solid Waste Division Additional funds have been transferred to allow continuation <br /> of th;; green.~~aste program. <br /> ~nvironment~J Management -Drafting the mission and goals of the department will <br /> be left to the-new Director. <br /> <br />
