Takaba, via Communication No. 181, <br /> dated Apri14, 2001, amends Ordinance No. 00-63, as amended, the Operating Budget, ending <br /> June 30, 2001. The amendment is as follows: <br /> From: <br /> 3601.01 Interest Earned General $470,250 <br /> <br /> To: <br /> 010-221-5221.01 FireProtection-5&W General $ 59,000 <br /> 010-221-5227.46 Basic EMT Training Equipment General $411,250 <br /> TOTAL $470,250 <br /> [The State of Hawaii Department of Health (DOH), through a miscalculation of fringe benefit <br /> costs, overpaid the County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program the amount of <br /> $470,250] The State of Hawaii D artment of Health DOH a s for the emer enc Medical <br /> Services EMS ro am throu a contract with the Hawaii Count Fire De artment. Fart of <br /> the money received from the DOH is used to reimburse the County for the fringe benefits of <br /> EMS personnel. However, to retain the budgeted level of EMS funding, the DOH has authorized <br /> the Hawaii County Fire Department to redirect the funds to pay for other EMS program <br /> priorities. If not used, these funds would lapse at the end of the fiscal year. <br /> Therefore, the funds will be used to purchase additional rescue equipment and three new <br /> ambulances. Also, these funds will supplement the overtime pay account to compensate EMS <br /> personnel recalled to meet EMS personnel shortages, and to supplement the salaries <br /> miscellaneous account to fund EMS proficiency pay for their new medical unit at Volcano. <br /> Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 48 and <br /> recommends it pass first reading. <br /> smc <br /> _ <br /> <br />
