Hawaii County Council
2~ Aupuni Street
Hilo, HI 96720 (Faxed to 969-3?91)
pear Councilperson Arakaki:
Some years ago I spent many hours reviewing the available material
concerning the safety and other issues involved in development of an irradiation
facility. I was convinced that irradiated food was safe, and that any safety issues
associated with the development and operation of a facility could be adequately
resolved.
NIy opinion has not changed. I know of uo rational reason not to encourage
the development of an irradiation facility. To the contrary there are a number of
good reasons, particularly the improycmcnt of our economy, to support such a
facility.
V trul yours,
Robert .
