Lich in history, the agricultural and rural lifestyle one experiences in North Kohala is its treasure - a treasure that a substantial number of the residents of this community wish to preserve. Since 1993, on the leeward side of our district, North Kohala community members have had to grapple with the potential impacts on this community concerning the 200- 250 room "Mahukona Lodge" proposed by Chalon International Inc. (Surety Kohala Corp.). Since the millennium, North Kohala has rapidly become a "trendy" place for retreat centers and three recently proposed centers, The Kohala Mountain Sanctuary, tiawai'i Insight Meditation Center and I-lawaiian Permaculture and Wellness Center sit in our "backyard", even though the North Kohala communitv~, has consistentl~r x ressed its d sire over he e rs that if it was t ha e a visit rind to k~= visitor- ase ro~ects n the I w r ide of our district or in oath Kohal r North Kona and not in fur own beards.
