Harvest, is ineffective. The blatant lies told to the students during DARE
are recognized by the kids, if not at the fifth grade level, then later; any
credence previously given to the voice of the police is then negated.
Whenever Operation Green Harvest helicopters are seen by the students, the
kids, quite on their own, mock the DEA and everything they stand for. They
question, likely mimicing adults, not only the credibility of both the DARE
program and DEA, but why more money isn't spent in education and less on the
hunt.
And I have the same question. I am not referring to the education of drugs,
via DARE, which has been proven ineffective. I am referring to "No Child
Left I3ehind." If this federal program is to stand a chance of being
effective, it must be funded, not simply envisioned. The same with all
other federally fund programs in education. Not to mention state funded
programs; plus the fact that we desperately need more qualified teachers,
less crowding in the classrooms, and more schools--nationwide, not just in
Hawaii.
I would like to end with this thought: drugs in our nation's society are
endemic; this we all know. We also know that they are purchased on the
black market. The quickest and easiest way to remove the profit made on an
item that is sold on the black market is to legalize it. This is a common
sense approach that even the youth of America understand. And they
question: is the system currently in place for society's protection or for
the continued wealth created for a few?
Drugs need to be decriminalized. Save the money spent to harrass citizens.
Spend to educate the leaders of tomorrow. It is only through education of
all that our country will maintain a government of the people, by the

people, and for the people.
Mahalo.
