<br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> BILL NO. 2so <br /> (Draft 6) <br /> ORDINANCE NO. <br /> AN ORDINANCE AMENDING C'IIAPTER 3, OF THE HAWAII COUNTY CODE;, BY <br /> REPEALING ARTICLE I -RELATING TO SIGNS, ADDING A NEW AR"fIC'Lli I - <br /> RELATING TO SIGNS, AND AMENDING AR"HOLE 2 -RELATING TO KAILUA <br /> VILLAGE SIGNS. <br /> I3E IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII: <br /> SECTION I. Chapter 3, article I, of the Hawaii County Code relating to signs, is hereby <br /> repealed. <br /> SECTION 2. Chapter 3, of the Hawaii County Code is amended by adding a new article I, <br /> which shall read as follows: <br /> "CHAPTER 3 <br /> SIGNS <br /> Article 1. Signs <br /> Division 1. Findings, Purpose and Scope <br /> Section 3-1. Findings and purpose. <br /> (a) The Council finds and declares that: <br /> (I) The people of the County have a primary interest in control ling the erection, <br /> location, and maintenance of outdoor signs in a manner designed to protect the <br /> public health, safety, and morals and to promote the public welfare; <br /> (2) The natural beauty of the County constitutes an attraction for tourists and visitors. <br /> and a substantial source of income and revenue of the people of the County is <br /> derived from the tourist trade; <br /> (3) The indiscriminate erection and improper maintenance of large signs seriously <br /> detract from the enjoyment and pleasure of the natural scenic beauty of the County, <br /> <br />
