signs or banners must be removed within 72 hours of the completion of the event or <br /> activity which they promote. <br /> (D) New businesses may display temporary signs or banners for thirty days following <br /> the opening of their business on a one-time basis only, on their premises only. <br /> (2) Any sign of a public, noncommercial nature, which includes any safety sign, danger <br /> signs, trespassing sign, sign indicating scenic or historical points of interest, and any sign <br /> erected by a public officer in the performance of a public duty, including traffic signs or <br /> directional signs, provided they conform to the sizes dictated by the Manual of Uniform Traftic <br /> Control Devices as published by the American Association of State Highway and <br /> Transportation Officials. <br /> (3) Any sign required to be posted by law, including any signs prescribed by Chapter <br /> 291 C, Hawaii Revised Statutes. <br /> Section 3-9. Signs allowed with permits, in all districts. <br /> (a) The following types of signs are allowed, with permits, in all districts: <br /> (I) Temporary signs or banners within or projecting over public streets or rights-of- <br /> way, if permitted and erected in accordance with Chapter 22 of the Hawaii County <br /> Code. <br /> (2) Subdivision identification sign. One sign, per legal subdivision roadway access, of <br /> either a ground or wall type, relating to the identification of subdivision within a district. <br /> Neither sign shall not exceed sixteen (16) square feet in area. <br /> Section 3-10. Signs permitted in residential districts. (RS, RD, RM) <br /> The following types of signs are allowed, with a permit, in the RS, RD and RM districts: <br /> (a) One sign, either wall or ground (unlighted or indirectly lighted), not exceeding six <br /> square feet in area. Commercial signs shall relate to a legally permitted activity being <br /> conducted on the premises. <br /> Section 3-11.
