We urge you to reject that request, and for reasons stated below:
1- The area has always been a pedestrian walkway. Years ago and with the
County Council's approval the Kona Outdoor Circle (and at great expense)
beautified the entire frontage (from the southside of the historic Mokuaikaua
Church to the old Emma's Store complex). However, when we at Mokuaikaua
Church inquired on April 16th, as to whether the Kona Outdoor Circle was
notified by the County Council as to what was being discussed the response
was that no word had reached this illustrious group in our community.
2- So, secondly we ask, "Where would the local pedestrians (including
children) be able to walk, if it be not where the walkway is located? Would you
suggest walking on Alii Drive? Would that not create an awful liability upon
the taxpaying public?"
3- Furthermore, we are totally against setting any kind of precedent in our
village, which would in effect take way our pedestrian rights. Has the Kailua
Village Design Commission been approached with Basil's request? We cannot
believe that the members of that group would allow such a use of our public
walkway.
~a a~g~0.~
~I® ~a.__._ p~..
zro: W ~
1?a+~ ~'R 2-~ ~ssa.
