BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDEDI: <br /> The State of Hawaii has received grant funds from the Department of <br /> Homeland Security, through the Office of Domestic Preparedness. The grant is a result of <br /> congressional funding for the purchase of specialized equipment to enhance the capability <br /> of county agencies to prevent and respond to incidents of terrorism. <br /> Financial assistance for the purchase of specialized equipment to enhance the capability of <br /> emergency responders through the acquisition of personal protective equipment; chemical, <br /> biological, radiological, nuclear or explosive (CBRNE) detection equipment; <br /> decontamination equipment; urban search and rescue equipment, communications <br /> equipment, explosive device mitigation and remediation equipment; medical supplies and <br /> pharmaceuticals; and CBRNE reference materials. <br /> Also financial assistance has been provided to support of grant initiatives which should <br /> include grant management and administration, training and exercise as duties related to this <br /> grant. <br /> Hawaii County, in turn, has been awarded $599,400.00 for such purposes and needs to <br /> enter into an agreement with State Civil Defense in order to receive these funds. <br /> SIGNED: //O~l~/.~~•~~~~t~' DATE: 06/18/03 <br /> ~ Department Head <br /> <br />
