JUL-03-2003 03:40 PM JULIE..TRCOBSON 982 8382 P. 04
The problem the association faces today is that the beach park Is
continuing to expand Its water use. Mort day use guests and campers
frequent the beach park, as It Is the only sand beach In South Kona,
and the only camping beach park as well. Excessive amounts of water
are consumed, given the limited capacity of our water system.
We currently have the original 5/8 Inch meter at the top of the line,
which is designated for single household use. On week-ends, holidays,
and busy beach days, (which is more and more the norm), the water
system can not provide enough water for both park and beach
rPSldents. Home owners lose all pressure and cannot even flush toilets,
wash dishes, or bathe. The park also loses pressure to the extent that
showers dribble, and toilets do not flush, creating possible health
concerns, as well as considerable Inconvenience for all members of the
Ho'okena Beach Community Water Association.
Given the Increasing demands of the Ho'okena County Beach Park, we
are in Immediate need of a larger 1 ~/z-2 Inch water meter. Without
this replacement meter, we well continue to experience water outages,
and/or be forced to disconnect most of the beach park fixtures
permanently. We see the larger meter as the next step to improve and
maintain the quality of water service to the park as well as all
residents. We are requesting funds to purchase and install the new
meter which will be owned by the non-profit Ho'okena Beach
Community Water Association, currently referred to by the water
department for billing purposes as "David Blehert and Hui".
Our Community water Association officers, who coordinate the reading
of water meters, issuing of water Mils, assuring accounts are kept
current, and administering any repairs or Improvements to the water
system are:
David Blehert, President
Damien Kenlson, Vice President
Jessie Grader, Treasurer
David Basque, Secretary and Sergeant at Arms
Tony Kane, Meter Reader
The Association now owns its own pipe cutters and pipe threader, and
maintains a minimum bank account balance to cover all line repair
costs.
No Association members are paid, and In fact donate all time, and
most repair items in the spirit of supporting a successful community
water system.
