The
acquisition guidelines are outlined below:
1. A preliminary title search is ordered, initially, to verify the owners names and
addresses.
2. A notification letter is sent by the Director of DPW to the landowners explaining the
scope of the project and the commencement of the land acquisition process.
3. An "Inspection Letter" is sent to the respective landowner explaining the scope of the
project and how their property will be affected. The same letter explains that there
will be an inspection of the their property at which representatives from Publics
Works, the design firm involved, the appraiser and land agent will meet with the
owner to answer questions they may have regarding the project and how their
property is affected.
4. An appraisal is conducted by an appraisal firm that has been approved by the State of
Hawaii, Department of Transportation, Right-of--Way Branch (SDOT-ROW). After
the appraisal is completed, it is reviewed and verified by the SDOT-ROW, after a
physical inspection the site as well as an inspection of comparable properties used in
the appraisal by its staff.
MLS.
101 Aupuni Street, Suite 1001
P.O.
