Arakaki, Chairman <br />and Members of the County Council <br />County of Hawaii <br />25 Aupuni Street <br />Hilo, HI 96720 <br />Dear Chairman Arakaki and Members: <br />Hawaiian Paradise Park Community Master Plan <br />The Planning Commission, at its duly held public hearing of September 27, 1997, voted to <br />forward a favorable recommendation to the County Council to adopt the Hawaiian Paradise Park <br />Community Master Plan (March 1997). <br />The favorable recommendation is based on the following: <br />The Hawaiian Paradise Park Subdivision encompasses approximately 10,000 <br />acres and a major portion extends from the Pahoa Government Road (Highway 130) to <br />the shoreline. A portion of the subdivision is located on the mauka side of Highway 130 <br />which stretches in the vicinity of Kaloli Drive toward Shower Drive. The subdivision <br />was approved in 1959 which created approximately 8,843 lots. Since the existence of the <br />subdivision, there have been no formal community development plan nor area plan <br />approved or adopted as a tool to guide the future land use and development of the <br />subdivision. <br />In October 1993, the Community Action Committee of the Paradise Hui Hanalike <br />Corporation, the community association of Hawaiian Paradise Park, sponsored a <br />community plan development seminar to create a vision and a map/plan for the future of <br />the community. Subsequent extensive meetings and workshops/presentations were held <br />which the community, other group participation and the County provided their input in <br />the development of this Community Master Plan.
