Sumada <br />Deputy Chief Engineer <br />The following is an update to the items listed in Exhibit A - Draft 4 of <br />the Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan approved by Council. <br />SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION: <br />'t +° � <br />rior r:l lelel`i tt <br />* Establish source separation disposal centers. P <br />Although the County is not operating any source separation disposal <br />centers, we have continued to offer diversion grant monies ($40 per <br />ton) to encourage private entrepeneurs to divert recyclables. <br />Also, in response to an RFP, the County has contracted with various <br />local businesses to provide greenwaste drop-off in Rona, aluminum <br />recycling in Pahala and Naalehu, glass recycling islandwide, and <br />household hazardous waste drop-off events. Attached is a copy of <br />the most recent Recycle Hawaii newsletter (a private, non-profit <br />organization subsidized by the County) which lists source separated <br />disposal locations and opportunities around the island. <br />* The County Council will consider a charter amendment establishing <br />the Solid Waste division as a true utility enterprise. tt m M54 <br />This is a Council action item.
