Park, thus increasing its potential distance by 19.8 miles through creation of a trail <br />network. <br />The Old Volcano Trail will benefit economic development of the Puna and Kau districts <br />by increasing the number of visitor attractions in the area, thus increasing opportunities <br />for jobs and other income-producing opportunities for local residents. The Trail will also <br />provide community enhancements by strengthening natural resources for cultural, <br />educational and recreational opportunities for local residents. <br />10. Planning and Coordination: <br />The Old Volcano Trail is classified as a "Priority Level I" project in the 2003 Bike Plan <br />Hawaii, the 10 -year master plan for the State Department of Transportation to integrate <br />bicycling into the state's transportation system. <br />The Old Volcano Trail abstract for property ownership was completed by the State Trails <br />& Access Program ("Na Ala Hele"), which is part of the Division of Forestry and <br />Wildlife at the Department of Land & Natural Resources. <br />11. Current and Future Traffic: <br />Current users of the Old Volcano Trail are estimated at 50 visitors and residents annually, <br />based on observations made by area residents. Future users of the Old Volcano Trail are <br />estimated at 1,500 visitors and residents annually. <br />12. Project Administration: <br />Project to be administered by the County of Hawaii, through its Department of Public <br />Works. <br />13.
