Eight of ten performance indicators for grant funded projects were attained. Arrests for
impaired driving and other violations, citations issued, ordering of cameras and
purchasing lighting kits, attendance to Lifesavers Conference, DRE Seminar, and Traffic
Commanders meetings were all attained.
The number of sobriety checkpoints conducted and vehicles screened were not attained.
This was due, in part, to staff shortages and change in Traffic Enforcement Unit
personnel that made it difficult to provide officers on overtime status.
One of five performance indicators for non-grant funded projects was attained. The
number of citations issued at non-funded checkpoints was attained. The number of
checkpoints, number of impaired driving arrests, number of other azrests and number of
vehicles screened was not attained. As indicated above, this was due, in part, to staff
shortages and change in Traffic Enforcement Unit personnel.
Enforcement, deterrent and educational efforts resulted in a reduction of alcohol related
fatalities for the 2003-04 fiscal year as compared to the 2002-03 fiscal year. From

October I, 2003 through September 30, 2004, there were 13 alcohol related fatalities, or

30% of the 43 total fatalities. This is a decrease from the previous year totals of 12

alcohol related fatalities, or 38% of the 32 total fatalities.
