There has been no provisions fot an open
span pt or special accommodations for persons heeding convenient access to the shoreline area in
the ooat~ensive plan to subdivide 1300 acres and four miles of shorelme.
The pd~tion park at PEPEEKEO POINT is the last remnant of the historic Pepeekeo Mill
plaata6a~oommunity. The Sugaz Industry is of significant historical and cultural importance to
Hawaiaai has contn'buted substantially to the life of the rural communities. The old camp was
abaodmi and razed in 1980, yet the old ball park and surrounding shoreline open space has
remaioiao important recreation and scenic area. Pepeekeo Point has been used for fishing,
picnid~, and ocean viewing activities continuously for generations. Public access to the former
Peperla3a Stirgaz Mill and old camp is recognized in the County of Hawaii Public Shoreline Access
Lxveatagof 1979. The General Plan of 1989 designates the shoreline area as "4g~n: Parks and

histoocsies." The pall is gently sloping and low, making this the easiest place to access the
shor+e3~ior a four mile shoreline area within the newly created Pepeekeo Makai subdivision. We

ask forfnorable consideration froml the Hawau Co Counc~7 and a NO VOTE- BILL 356.
1
":.Xa J
.
