Hawaii County Project PAU Advisory Council

A Program to Prevent Aleohol Use by Minors
these presentations.
11. Project IMPACT is an alcohol prevention program facilitated by the Hawaii
County Police Department Juvenile Aid Section, Area II, West Hawaii. This
detail focuses on enforcement in public areas, conducting public education on
dangers of underage drinking, an 8 hour work/training session to 20-40 youthful
offenders per month who are arrested for alcohol related offenses as part of their
assigned community service via Teen Court. Funds were used to provide "work"
t-shirts, gloves (clean-up) and lunch for these sessions.
12. Hawaii County Police Department-Community Policing Division, conducted a
youth rally for at- risk middle school youths. This educational rally included
programs on the dangers of alcohol, drugs and tobacco and including interactive
displays and skits by local high schools in conjunction with entertainment,
contests, etc. The intent of this event was to promote alternatives to at-risk
behavior. Funds were used to purchase supplies.
We are continually encouraged by the many agencies, organizations, schools and
youths that commit to promoting drug and alcohol-free lifestyles. As with most
organizations, funding activities remains a major hurdle for these organizations. On
behalf of our Big Island community, we again express our gratitude to the Office of
Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention; the State of Hawaii Department of
Health-Alcohol, Drug and Abuse Division and MADD-Hawaii for funds vital to our
support of our rural communities' efforts to promote drug-free lifestyles.
Very Truly,
Janice Pakele
Director, Department of Liquor Control
Ja,wYokoyawui
Department of Health
Public Health Nursing -Hilo Branch
Lt.
