Hawaii County Project PAU Advisory Council <br /> <br /> A Program to Prevent Alcohol Use by Minors <br /> 5. The Hilo High School Pool party was an inaugural event involving student <br /> athletes who planned, marketed and conducted this event for 300+ teens. <br /> Patterned after the Project Grad events, this event was held in conjunction with <br /> the school's annual athletic banquet and activities included promotion of drug <br /> free living. Funds were used for food and entertainment. <br /> <br /> 6. Kealakehe High School Grad Night. This alcohol and drug free all-night <br /> graduation night activity was attended by 205 of 310 graduating seniors (66°~) at <br /> this school located in Kona, Hawaii. Project Grad is a community and school <br /> endorsed and chaperoned activity, which provides safe and fun activities for <br /> graduates. Kealakehe's activities took place at the pool and at a local function <br /> site for food, games, entertainment and dancing. Funds were used to defray <br /> costs. <br /> 7. Pahoa High School Grad Night: This alcohol and drug free all-night graduation <br /> night activity was attended by 78 of the 108 graduating seniors (83%). Project <br /> Grad is a community and school endorsed and chaperoned activity which <br /> provides safe and fun activities for graduates. Pahoa's activities took place at <br /> the bowling alley and local yacht club for food, games, entertainment and <br /> dancing. Funds were used to defray costs. <br /> 8. Waikoloa Elementary School is located in the residential community nearest to <br /> many of the major resort properties on our island. In an effort to promote <br /> healthy lifestyles, Waikoloa Elementary School regularly hosts dances and <br /> events that benefit its youth. After school dances are held for K - 6th graders and <br /> evening dances for 7th to 11th graders. Funds were used to provide <br /> entertainment, decorations and marketing. <br /> 9. Ka'u is a community located at the southern end of our island. In an effort to <br /> promote "community" spirit, Ka'u High School's administration, along with other <br /> community groups, held a drug and alcohol-free Spring Fest. A host of activities <br /> were provided for young and old alike, including promotion of alcohol and drug <br /> free lifestyles to its community and students. Funds were used to rent a rock <br /> climbing wall and to purchase supplies. <br /> 10. DLNR-Division of Conservation and Resource Enforcement (DOCARE) is <br /> responsible for enforcement on state lands and waters. DOCARE also has an <br /> established educational program, known as CARE, which includes a Stop <br /> Underage Drinking presentation. DOCARE, as a member of the Hawaii County <br /> Project PAU Advisory Council, has assumed the education leadership role for our <br /> PAU Council and continually conducts its presentation at its many public forums <br /> and in our schools. Funds were used for pamphlets and give-away items at <br /> 3 <br /> County of Hawaii Department of Liquor Control <br /> Hawaii County Police Department -Community Policing Division <br /> State of Hawaii Department of Health -Public Health Nursing, Hilo Branch <br /> State of Hawaii DLNR -Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement <br /> <br />
