J_ <br /> 25 Aupuni Street <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 _ <br /> Re: Teen Dating Violence Prevention <br /> <br /> Dear Council Members: <br /> As the Prosecuting Attorney for the City and County of <br /> <br /> Honolulu as well as the father of two teenage children, I <br /> <br /> write in strong support of funding for the Teen Dating <br /> <br /> Violence Prevention funding request by the Hawaii County <br /> Committee on the Status of Women. Teen dating violence is, in <br /> <br /> my opinion, part of the larger cycle of domestic violence that <br /> plagues our community. An initiative such as this one that <br /> intervenes at an early stage has the potential of breaking <br /> this damaging cycle that injures so many island families. <br /> Your support of this effort will help young people at a <br /> critical stage in the development of significant relationships <br /> to understand what is appropriate and what is destructive <br /> behavior. Sadly, many young people come from homes and <br /> environments that set an example of abuse and violence. <br /> Educating such young people about a healthier and more <br /> productive alternative is clearly in the public interest. <br /> Thank you for your consideration of this important <br /> funding request.
