November 3, 2005

Councilman Angel Pilago, Co-Chair
Councilman Pete Hoffman, Co-Chair
County Council Planning Committee
25 Aupuni Street
Hilo, Hawaii 966720
Dear Councilman Pilago and Hoffman:
Subject: EDH 2025: ACommunity-based Vision and Living Action Plan for
Downtown Hilo
This is to express my support of the above-referenced Vision for Downtown Hilo. [
encourage you to endorse this document and pass the resolution, as it reflects over 15
months of hard work compiled by the Friends of Downtown Hilo Steering Committee.
This document reflects the community's Vision and the Action Plan that will help shape
the future of Downtown Hilo.
I, Barbara Blackshear Andersen, have been identified as a Lead Solution Partner for 1
action. I am excited about moving forward and working with the Plan. Hilo is one of the
last towns in Hawaii that is still a real town, with history and character. That is also
what attracts travel writers, visitors and retiring baby boomers, so... it is very important
to work together to keep Milo unspoiled by that which has erased the uniqueness and
character of so many other special towns in Hawai i. "Phis community's Vision and
Action Plan addresses Hilo's future, while maintaining the small-town lifestyle we all
love.
"Thank you.
Sincerely,
Barbara Blackshear Andersen
131 Ka'iulani Street
Hilo, Hawaii 96720
cc: Friends of Downtown Hilo Steering Committee
c/o County of Hawaii Planning Department
