N,k <br /> 0. • - 7~ <br /> 4~ ~y y~ilry~ <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> ' <br /> ~'r%ae'a~"' <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 253 fT6 <br /> RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AN <br /> AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF HAWAII DEPARTMENT OF <br /> TRANSPORTATION, PURSUANT TO HRS 46-7, FOR A DEPUTY PROSECUTOR <br /> TRAINING PROJECT <br /> WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation's Safe Community Traffic <br /> Safety Program has authorized a Highway Safety Project grant to the Hawaii Office of the <br /> Prosecuting Attorney to provide training for its deputy prosecuting attorneys and other law <br /> enforcement agencies; and <br /> WHEREAS, this grant, derived from federal funds, will be used to provide statewide training <br /> and meetings for deputy prosecuting attorneys and police to improve communications between <br /> agencies and to improve the law enforcement system in its efforts to enforce traffic offenses; and <br /> WHEREAS, the overall goals of the interagency communication and training project are to <br /> make our roads safer and to improve the performance of the law enforcement system in its efforts to <br /> enforce DUI and other traffic laws by training deputy prosecutors, police, and medical responders in <br /> <br /> the conceptual, technical, scientific and trial aspects of DUI and other traffic offenses; and <br /> WHEREAS, the objectives of this project is to have a deputy prosecutor from each side of the <br /> Big Island of Hawaii to attend periodic traffic commanders meetings, to hold an annual training on <br /> DUI/negligent homicide, and to create guidelines for prosecution and investigation for DUI/negligent <br /> homicides and other traffic cases; and <br /> WHEREAS, Hawaii Revised Statutes, Section 46-7, requires that county departments obtain <br /> <br /> the consent of the council to enter into agreements with the federal or state governments respecting <br /> action to be taken pursuant to any of the powers granted by law to furnish, expend, and receive any <br /> <br /> funds or other assistance in connection with projects being or to be undertaken pursuant to those <br /> powers. <br /> <br />
