Arakaki
Council Chair
FR: Bobby-Jean Leithead Todd
Councilmember r/
RE: Bill No. 145
Waianuenue Traffic Compression
Please convey my apologies to the Councilmembers and members of the public for not being
able to attend the Mazch 6, 1998 Council meeting. I realize that Bill No. 145 has been deferred
for some time and everyone would like to know the Council's decision. Please inform them that
I will not be able to support Bill No. 145 at this time, because after meeting with the residents of
the Haili community, there have been too many unanswered questions regazding the increased
traffic on Laimana Street and Alae Street.
I appreciate the efforts of Richazd Nishimura and his Division in trying to improve the traffic
conditions on Waianuenue Avenue during the morning school traffic, but because of the
uncertainty that looms in people's minds about the experimental traffic compression, I feel it is
best warranted to wait until the Mohouli Street extension has been completed. Once the Mohouli
extension is completed, and some of the Waianuenue traffic has been alleviated, we can then
address the Waianuenue traffic concern again and perhaps restore it to the normal two-way traffic
twenty-four hours a day.
I, therefore, request that the Council file Bill No. 145.
(:ao~n.
