Murashige, Laura

From: Lynda Wallach [lyndawallach@usa.net]
Sent: Saturday, July 08, 2006 4:21 PM
To: cohmayor@co.hawaii.hi.us; Holschuh, Fred; Ikeda, Donald; Arakaki, James; Higa, Stacy;
Safarik, Gary; Jacobson, Bob; Hoffmann, Pete; Pilago, K. Angel; Isbell, Virginia;
counciltestimony@co.hawaii.hi.us
Subject: Petition regarding modifications to the Space and Natural Resources Ordinance
Dear Mayor Kim and Hawaii County Council:

As of this date over 9000 people have signed the Petition to put on November's
ballot the question of whether to modify the existing Open Space And Natural `~„1i,•- c
Resources Ordinance by making the following changes: C 't r-
1 -To
set aside 2% of the property tax each and every year for Open Space and
Natural resource acquisition and
2-to eliminate the limit of $5 million that can be held in the fund.
I am asking the County to honor the wishes of these citizens and include
signatures of voters that:
1- forgot to write the st. ave. or highway suffix as part of their residence
addresses

2- forgot to put the year 2006 in the date column.
Many people worked hard to gather these signatures and they and those who
signed the petitions did so with the belief that in a representative,
democratic government, their representatives would be eager to assist their
constituents in making their voices heard. I believe that the County should
be doing all it can to support the petition process rather than attempting to
disqualify signatures. The question is not whether or not you agree with the
proposal, but whether you believe the residents of Hawaii Island have the
right, through the ballot box, to have a voice in the future of their home.
Please put the question on the November 2006 Ballot now!
Sincerely,
Name: Lynda Wallach
Address: PO Box 1468
Kapaau, Hi 96755
Email: lyndawallach@usa.net
Date: July 9, 2006

Comm.
