No. 97-452 <br /> On October 2, 1997, we informed Portia Hara, Prosecutor Jay Kimura's secretary, and <br /> Shigeko Kiyojima, Chief of Police Carvalho's secretary, that they are not authorized to accept <br /> service of complaints on behalf of other employees of the County of Hawaii who have been sued <br /> as individuals in the above-referenced matter. At this time, Jay Kimura is the only individual <br /> defendant who has been properly served with a complaint and summons in this case. <br /> In order to serve a complaint upon individuals in a proceeding of a civil nature in the <br /> Hawaii State Courts, service may be made as follows: <br /> 1. By delivering a copy of the summons and of the complaint to him personally, <br /> Rule 4(d)(1)(A), Hawaii Rules of Civil Procedure ("HRCP"); or <br /> 2. In case he cannot be found, by leaving a copy thereof at his dwelling house or <br /> usual place of abode with some person of suitable age and discretion then residing <br /> therein,j~.; or <br /> 3. By delivering a copy of the summons and of the complaint to an agent authorized <br /> by appointment or by law to receive service of process, Rule 4(d)(1)(B), HRCP; <br /> or <br /> 4. Upon an officer of a county, by serving the county and by delivering a copy of the <br /> summons and of the complaint to such officer, Rule 4(d)(7), HRCP; or <br /> <br />
