The Pahoa community had independently been working toward the goals of the Weed and Seed strategy long before official recognition. When formally exposed to the Weed and Seed Program, they quickly recognized the benefits of the strategy and mobilized so efficiently that they managed to submit a successful application for official designation as a Weed and Seed site in a mere three and a half weeks. This community is definitely motivated. Since receiving their official designation, this community has continued to make improvements while building an impressive coalition of community service organizations, businesses, and agencies, which are, individually and collectively, determined to maximize their resources to improve the quality of life within the site and the surrounding sub- divisions. Additionally, the leadership of the site has shown that they are in this for the long haul. They are working to establish a strong foundation for the strategy and continue working to increase their partnerships and collaborations through outreach and community building events and celebrations.
