The property is located at the northern corner of Kawili Street and Kapiolani <br /> Street, across from the Waiakea High School complex, Waiakea, South Hilo, Hawaii. <br /> The Commission concurs with the following Planning Director's reasons for recommending <br /> favorable consideration of the change of zone: <br /> The applicant is requesting a change of zone for 4.888 acres from an Open (O) to <br /> a Multiple Family Residential - 1,000 squaze feet (RM-1) district in order to enhance the <br /> lives of veterans, and active and reserve military personnel and their families by <br /> providing an affordable housing complex and aone-stop center that consolidates the <br /> many service delivery agencies now located at disparate locations azound the state. The <br /> remainder of the project site is currently zoned RM-1. <br /> The project will include a Combined Veteran's Center (CVC) office building, a <br /> multi-purpose facility and affordable senior housing. The CVC will house several <br /> agencies and veteran service providers, including the U.S. Department of Veterans <br /> Administration, the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wazs, and other <br /> Hawai `i County is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer <br /> <br />
