This program provides a 24 hour emergency shelter that serves families and <br /> individuals and provides participants opportunities to become self sufficient and prepares them to secure <br /> and maintain permanent housing. <br /> Pursuant to Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(b) of the Hawaii County Code, "in the event that a <br /> grantee nonprofit organization is unable or unwilling to provide the public service(s) for which a grant <br /> <br /> was appropriated, the mayor may direct the finance director to solicit applications from eligible nonprofit <br /> organizations to fulfill the specific public purpose(s) for which the funds were originally appropriated for <br /> the remainder of the fiscal year. The director shall forward recommended application(s) and <br /> appropriation measure(s) to the council for its decision. Funds appropriated to a successor nonprofit <br /> organization shall not exceed the balance of unexpended County funds awarded to the original grantee <br /> nonprofit organization". <br /> In compliance with Chapter 2, Article 25 of the Hawaii County Code, a public notice for the solicitation of <br /> applications was published in the local newspapers on January 19, 2007. <br /> Enclosed is the lone application from the Office of Social Ministry, a qualifying organization, to administer <br /> the Kihei Pua Emergency Shelter program and a resolution transferring $20,000, the remaining grant <br /> balance, from the East Hawaii Coalition for the Homeless to the Office of Social Ministry. <br /> We will notify the applicant, Office of Social Ministry, as soon as the Council has acted upon this <br /> application. <br /> Should you have any questions, please feel free to call me. <br /> C2 <br /> William Taka <br /> Director of Finance / <br /> Comm.
