<br /> Of the eighteen new applicants consideration was given to all excepting Arts 8c Science Center
<br />
<br /> that is closely associated with the Hawaii Academy of Arts & Science (HAAS) Public Charter
<br /> School a State fund educational center and Hawaii Wildlife Center, a program dedicated to the
<br /> care and conservation of Hawaii wildlife. It is not the intent of this committee to demean the
<br /> purpose of these agencies as there program serve our community.
<br /> I thank the Adhoc Committee, Council Members Donald Ikeda, Stacy Higa, and Vice-Chair
<br /> Angel Pilago for their participation and attendance at each interviews and site visits. I want to
<br /> extend my appreciation for the excellent work and review by Council Committee staff Jeanette
<br /> Aiello and Liz Bonnell, Legislative Auditor personnel, support staff Barbara Hale, Legislative
<br /> Assistant and Gwen Kupahu, Legislative Aide.
<br /> The committee considered programs that focus on youth oriented activities and drug and
<br /> alcohol abuse prevention and programs that aid and/or benefits the less fortunate, given the
<br /> highest priority.
<br /> The following attach table illustrates FY 2007-08 recommendations for $1,500,000 - $600,000
<br /> over and above the available County grant. The committee decision to seek additional fund is
<br /> to provide much needed services through out the island. I submit these recommendations for
<br /> your deliberation and decision.
<br /> Again, I would like to express my gratitude to the Adhoc committee for their time and ask that
<br /> the Council members for their support in this appropriation process.
