Page 2 of 2 <br /> relaxation, fellowship, sustainable opportunites:fishing-gathering; a "safe" place; recreational <br /> activities: swimming, sunbathing, boogie boarding; soaking in the clean briny air, cool <br /> breezes, sunshine, healthy exercise: taking lesiurely walks, hiking; just sitting quietly, having a peaceful <br /> lunch -dinner, reading a book, infinite learning possibilities, aesthetics (limited development) and <br /> "outstanding" ambiance. <br /> The County leased facilities: large pavillion and the two smaller cabanas are well utilized by our Ka'u <br /> families, tourist, random picnickers, campers, celebrations from first baby "luau" (s) -birthdays in <br /> general - anniversarys- graduation paties, weddings, memorial gatherings, school (elementary to college) <br /> field trips and/or overnighters on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis. Visitors alone were <br /> estimated to be over a thousand "malahini" (travelers) as demonstrated in a 2006 survey conducted <br /> by community volunteers for thirty (3) consecutive days. <br /> Once a thriving and prosperous ahapua'a in olden times (Punalu'u was once the second largest royal <br /> Hawaiian centers in the region), many irreplaceable historical sites were destroyed and lost forever <br /> by the C.
