~r os p <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> °'r~ oe'~:~'° <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 248 07 <br /> RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AN <br /> <br /> AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF HAWAII DEPARTMENT OF THE ATTORNEY <br /> GENERAL, PURSUANT TO HRS 46-7, FOR A CELL PHONE/PDA VIOLENCE <br /> GRANT FOR THE HAWAII COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT <br /> WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii Department of the Attorney General, Crime Prevention and <br /> Justice Assistance Division has authorized funding towards the Hawaii County Police Department's <br /> Cell Phone/PDA Violence Project; and <br /> WHEREAS, the goal of this project is to improve Hawaii Police Department's ability to collect <br /> and store suspect's personal information from cell phones and other wireless electronic device in <br /> order to respond appropriately to violent sex crimes, domestic violence crimes, homicides and <br /> assaults against women; and <br /> WHEREAS, this goal can be accomplished by improving the evidence collection from these <br /> wireless communications devices, to include cell phones/PDAs related to the crime; and <br /> WHEREAS, this project will enable investigators in the Juvenile Aid Section and Criminal <br /> Investigation Sections from the East and West Hawaii to retrieve information/evidence from cell <br /> phones/PDAs used in violent crimes against women, and to reduce the investigating time from <br /> assignment to referral to the prosecutor's office; and <br /> WHEREAS, acquiring and having the proper equipment, software, and training to retrieve <br /> information from these kinds of electronic devices will improve the prosecution of perpetrators; and <br /> WHEREAS, the funds provided by the State of Hawaii Department of the Attorney General are <br /> derived from grants provided by the federal government; and <br /> <br />
