No. 248-07 PLACE: Council Chambers TIME: 9:41 a.m. Council Chair and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 248-07, reports as follows: Resolution No. 248-07, transmitted jointly with Bill No. 118 by Director of Finance William Takaba, via Communication No. 501, dated June 26, 2007, authorizes the Office of the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State of Hawaii Department of the Attorney General, pursuant to HRS 46-7, for a Cell Phone/PDA Violence Grant to the Hawaii County Police Department. The State of Hawaii Department of the Attorney General, Crime Prevention and Justice Assistance Division has authorized a $30,000 grant to the Police Department for a Cell Phone/PDA Violence grant to improve the department's ability to collect evidence from wireless communication devices in order to respond appropriately to violent sex crimes, domestic violence crimes, homicides and assaults against women, and to reduce the investigating time from assignment to referral to the prosecutor's office.. Pursuant to Section 46-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, County Departments must obtain the consent of the Council to enter into agreements with the federal or state governments respecting action to be taken ptusuant to any of the powers granted by law to furnish, expend and receive any funds or other assistance in connection with projects being or to be undertaken pursuant to those powers. There was no discussion on this measure.
