~~tV Os N'•4 6 COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION NO. 294 Q'7 RESOLUTION CHANGING THE FUNDING SOURCE AND THE POSITION STATUS OF THE TRAFFIC SAFETY COORDINATOR POSITION WHEREAS, in 2004, the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation, Public Affairs Office - Safe Community Program had authorized funding for the Hawaii County Police Department's Community Based Traffic Coordinator Program; and WHEREAS, the grant funds were used to create a temporary community based Traffic Safety Coordinator position to facilitate the development of a County of Hawaii Driving Prevention Task Force, to serve as the liaison for the Police Department between the community and other government agencies regarding impaired driving program, and to evaluate the Intoxilyzer program and the Administrative Revocation Procedures to improve conviction rate; and WHEREAS, the position has been very successful in developing the Hawaii County Impaired Driving Task Force, which is comprised of various agency representatives, politicians, and members of the public; and WHEREAS, the Task Force has aggressively worked on educating the public on traffic safety through the various media; and WHEREAS, the grant funding for the Traffic Safety Coordinator position, position no. 00- 04494, is scheduled to end in September 2007; and WHEREAS, to continue this program, which has greatly impacted the Big Island communities throughout the County and has been deemed to be successful, the County will fund this position and its status be changed from temporary to permanent; and WHEREAS, there should be sufficient funds in the various regular salaries and wages accounts of the Police Department for this position.
