~~tV Os N'•4 <br /> 6 <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 294 Q'7 <br /> RESOLUTION CHANGING THE FUNDING SOURCE AND THE POSITION STATUS <br /> <br /> OF THE TRAFFIC SAFETY COORDINATOR POSITION <br /> WHEREAS, in 2004, the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation, Public Affairs Office <br /> - Safe Community Program had authorized funding for the Hawaii County Police Department's <br /> Community Based Traffic Coordinator Program; and <br /> WHEREAS, the grant funds were used to create a temporary community based Traffic <br /> Safety Coordinator position to facilitate the development of a County of Hawaii Driving Prevention <br /> Task Force, to serve as the liaison for the Police Department between the community and other <br /> government agencies regarding impaired driving program, and to evaluate the Intoxilyzer program <br /> and the Administrative Revocation Procedures to improve conviction rate; and <br /> WHEREAS, the position has been very successful in developing the Hawaii County <br /> Impaired Driving Task Force, which is comprised of various agency representatives, politicians, <br /> and members of the public; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Task Force has aggressively worked on educating the public on traffic <br /> safety through the various media; and <br /> WHEREAS, the grant funding for the Traffic Safety Coordinator position, position no. 00- <br /> 04494, is scheduled to end in September 2007; and <br /> WHEREAS, to continue this program, which has greatly impacted the Big Island <br /> communities throughout the County and has been deemed to be successful, the County will fund <br /> this position and its status be changed from temporary to permanent; and <br /> WHEREAS, there should be sufficient funds in the various regular salaries and wages <br /> accounts of the Police Department for this position. <br /> <br />
