The Traffic Safety Coordinator position was created to address impaired driving and the resulting traffic injuries and deaths. The position was to facilitate the development of a County of Hawaii Driving Prevention Task Force; to serve as the liaison for the Police Department between the community and other government agencies regarding impaired driving program; and to evaluate the Intoxilyzer program and the Administrative Revocation Procedures to improve the conviction rate. The Police Department has been informed that the grant funding for this position will be ending in September 2007. However, the County plans to continue the funding of the Traffic Safety Coordinator and change its status from temporary to permanent.
