~~v or ~y <br /> <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> I, <br /> '1ja~~,.M''+ <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 303 0'7 <br /> A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE MAYOR TO CREATE A COMMUNITY <br /> VIOLENCE COORDINATOR POSITION FOR THE OFFICE OF THE PROSECUTING <br /> ATTORNEY <br /> WHEREAS, the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney and the Hawaii Police Department <br /> believe it is in the best interest of both agencies to have a committed, or permanent community <br /> violence coordinator; and <br /> WHEREAS, previous coordinators focused on domestic violence have been grant <br /> funded; and <br /> WHEREAS, the coordination of government, social service agencies, and non-profit <br /> agencies geared toward domestic violence lapses when the grant funding lapses and the position <br /> is eliminated; and <br /> WHEREAS, initially, there was a coordinator in the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney <br /> in the early 1990s who created the Domestic Violence Interagency Team; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Domestic Violence Interagency Team ultimately dissolved on or around <br /> 2001 and a Family Violence Advisory Commission to the Mayor was formed and the last <br /> meeting was in September 2004; and <br /> WHEREAS, all parties involved agree that for this county to effectively respond to its <br /> domestic violence problem, a permanent, full-time coordinator must be in place; and <br /> WHEREAS, a coordinator would ensure that all agencies, government and non- <br /> government, that respond to domestic violence, create a strategic response to the problem; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council is committed to addressing the domestic <br /> violence problem; and <br /> WHEREAS, for the duration of the first year of the coordinator position being <br /> established, council members are requested to commit a portion of their Contingency Relief <br /> funds toward the salaries and benefits of this newly-created position; and <br /> WHEREAS, the County Council requests that the Office of Prosecuting Attorney budget <br /> this Community Violence Coordinator position in subsequent fiscal years; and <br /> <br />
