No. 303-07 <br /> PLACE: Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa <br /> TIME: 10:23 a.m. <br /> Council Chair Hoffmann and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 303-07, reports as follows: <br /> Resolution No. 303-07, transmitted by Director of Finance William Takaba, via Communication <br /> No. 605, dated August 13, 2007, creates a Community Violence Coordinator position for the Office of <br /> the Prosecuting Attorney. <br /> Initially, the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney had a coordinator in the early 1990's when the <br /> Domestic Violence Interagency Team was created. The Domestic Violence Interagency Team <br /> ultimately dissolved on or around 2001, a Family Violence Advisory Commission to the Mayor was <br /> formed, and the last meeting was in September 2004. <br /> Pursuant to Article V, Section 5-1.3(c), Hawaii County Charter, the Mayor has the power to "Create <br /> positions...for which appropriations have been made by the Council." <br /> Prosecuting Attorney Jay Kimura expressed the need for this position because of an increase in <br /> domestic violence increase. The coordinator will be able to address violence within families, and help <br /> families work towards prevention of further domestic violence.
