BOX 373 <br /> HONOLULU, HI 96813-4321 <br /> SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR TIME EXTENSION <br /> REVISIONS TO CHAPTER 27 -HAWAII COUNTY CODE <br /> As you know, the County of Hawaii has been diligently working on revisions to Chapter 27 since <br /> February of this year with the introduction of Bill 51. Public interest and testimony has been <br /> tremendous. Unfortunately, this has raised many unanticipated issues that has delayed the passage <br /> of the Bill. As a result, on August 15 Bill 51, Drafr 5 will be withdrawn and replaced with Bill 151. <br /> We have conducted two public meetings this week regarding the new Bill 151 which has raised new <br /> issues such as impacts to ADA accessibility and affordable housing projects. <br /> In the event that we are unable to adopt Bill 151 by September 30, 2007, I ask for your cooperation <br /> in granting the County of Hawaii an extension until November 30, 2007. We do not want to hastily <br /> adopt a bill that may be defective and/or have unacceptable impacts to the public just to meet the <br /> September 30th deadline. <br /> Your understanding of our situation and subsequent approval of our request will be sincerely <br /> appreciated. <br /> BRUCE C.
