The Recreation Director II position, vacant since May 16, 2006; has had most of its planning and coordinating duties re-assigned to the two Police Officer II positions within the HI-PAL program. The proposed Clerk III position will be assigned to take over some of the remaining duties of the Recreation Director and to also assist the Community Policing, School Resources, HI-PAL programs and the Traffic Enforcement Unit with various accounting and clerical duties including payroll, requisitions, budget, and correspondence that are currently being performed by the Lieutenant and Sergeant of the respective areas. By creating this Clerk III position, the sworn supervisory staff will have more time to supervise their respective staff and concentrate on their program requirements and deadlines; instead of performing clerical tasks. Enclosed is a resolution abolishing the Recreation Director II position and creating a Clerk III position within the Hawaii County Police Department.
