No. 299-07 <br /> <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers, Ben Franklin Bldg. <br /> <br /> TIME: 3:08 p.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 299-07, reports as follows: <br /> Resolution No. 299-07, transmitted jointly with Bill No. 148 by Director of Finance <br /> William Takaba, via Communication No. 595, dated July 31, 2007, authorizes the Office of the <br /> Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State of Hawaii Department of the Attorney General, <br /> for a Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) Standby Pay grant for the County of Hawaii <br /> Police Department. <br /> The goal of this project is to improve Hawaii County's response to violent sex crimes, physical <br /> abuse and crimes of violence against women. The SAFE personnel are responsible to investigate <br /> all sexual assaults and difficult abuse cases. SAFE nurses have been put on standby status, <br /> which means they must respond when called to conduct an examination at any time of the day or <br /> week, and are not compensated for it.
