<br /> SPECIAL HOLIDAY ENFORCEMENT <br /> • Special Holiday Enforcement Roadblocks will take place in East Hawaii from November <br /> 20, 2006 to January, 8, 2007. <br /> • There were 5 Fatal Crashes and 5 fatalities during this period in 2005. <br /> • Four of these Fatal Crashes and fatalities were in East Hawaii, two were alcohol related. <br /> • The Big Island has an Alcohol Related Fatality Rate of nearly 60% <br /> Our goal is to implement at least 30 additional Roadblocks in Hilo and Puna during this <br /> period, and to screen 5000 vehicles. <br /> The focus of these projects will be to decrease Fatal Crashes and Fatalities during this <br /> holiday period by one each in East Hawaii. <br /> GRANT PERIOD RESULTS: <br /> (FINAL REPORT) <br /> • Established 19 sobriety checkpoints with grant funds during the fourth quarter. Checkpoints <br /> were established on all major holidays. <br /> Total of 81 grant funded sobriety checkpoints with grant funds established during fiscal <br /> year. <br /> • Initiated 13 arrests for Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of an Intoxicant (OVUII) at <br /> checkpoints during the fourth quarter <br /> • Total of 65 OVUII arrests with grant funds made during fiscal year. <br /> • Initiated 25 arrests for other violations at grant-funded checkpoints during the fourth quarter. <br /> Total of 102 arrests for other violations with grant funded checkpoints made during fiscal <br /> year. <br /> • Issued 2 seat belts, 4 child restraint and 60 other citations for violations at grant funded <br /> checkpoints in the fourth quarter. <br /> Total of 13 seatbelt, 6 child restraint and 234 other citations for violations issued at grant <br /> funded checkpoints during the fiscal year. <br /> i~ <br /> • Screened 1,358 vehicles at grant-funded projects in the fourth quarter. <br /> Total of 7,628 vehicles screened at grant-funded projects during the fiscal year. <br /> • Two Officers attended a total of three weeks of Intoxilyzer training this grant period. Training <br /> conducted by CMI Inc. <br /> <br />
