Mivw~ <br /> WW <br /> <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 442 07 <br /> A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING H.R. 676 THAT WOULD ESTABLISH THE <br /> UNITED STATES NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE ACT. <br /> WHEREAS, H.R. 676, the United States National Health Insurance Act, introduced <br /> by Congressman John Conyers, Jr., would establish a unique American universal health <br /> insurance program with single-payer financing; and <br /> WHEREAS, H.R. 676 would create a publicly financed and privately delivered health <br /> care system that improves and expands the already existing Medicare program to all U.S. <br /> residents and all residents living in U.S. territories; and <br /> WHEREAS, the purpose of H.R. 676 is to ensure that all Americans will have access, <br /> guaranteed by law, to the highest quality and most cost effective health care services regardless <br /> of their employment, income, or health care status; and <br /> WHEREAS, this program would cover all medically necessary services, including <br /> primary care, inpatient care, outpatient care, emergency care, prescription drugs, durable <br /> medical equipment, hearing services, long-term care, mental health services, dentistry, eye <br /> care, chiropractic, and substance abuse treatment; and <br /> WHEREAS, patients would have their choice of physicians, providers, hospitals, <br /> clinics, and practices; and <br /> WHEREAS, this legislation would control skyrocketing health costs while providing <br /> coverage for 47 million uninsured and 50 million underinsured Americans; and <br /> WHEREAS, under H.R. 676, families and businesses would pay less for health care <br /> services, while the nation would pay about the same to provide coverage for all Americans; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, 86 Representatives have signed on as cosponsors of H.R. 676, including <br /> both of Hawai`i's Representatives, Neil Abercrombie and Mazie K. Hirono; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> the Hawaii County Council urges the United States Congress to pass H.R. 676, the United <br /> States National Health Insurance Act; and <br /> <br />
