~iY Os N'•4 <br /> ~r <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 4.~1 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO <br /> A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) <br /> WHEREAS, Kea`au High School's Environmental and Spatial Technology (EAST) <br /> program focuses on student-driven service projects using the most current, high-end <br /> technologies available in some of the most progressive fields in the world; and <br /> WHEREAS, the EAST program provides students with an educational atmosphere <br /> that allows them to gain insight into their own abilities to acquire and use information, solve <br /> problems, and gain valuable experience in using the latest technology; and <br /> WHEREAS, EAST students routinely interact with hardware and software in <br /> animation, computer-aided design, engineering design, visualization, database design, <br /> <br /> . webpage design, programming, office automation, global positioning systems, and geographic <br /> information systems; and <br /> WHEREAS, the skills and experiences that students gain from this program include <br /> teamwork, leadership, self-motivation, public speaking, and more; and <br /> WHEREAS, the EAST program also helps students to be better prepared for both <br /> college and the business world; and <br /> WHEREAS, on November 6, 2007, students from the Kea`au High School's EAST <br /> program did a PowerPoint presentation on some of their projects to the Council Members <br /> during the Human Services and Economic Development Committee; and <br /> WHEREAS, these same students would like to present their projects at the upcoming <br /> national EAST Partnership Conference on February 19-21, 2008, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, <br /> which includes an interactive map of the Puna Community Development Plan; and <br /> WHEREAS, the EAST Partnership Conference is an annual gathering of over 2,000 <br /> students from across America showcasing their service projects, as well as participating in <br /> breakout sessions on the latest technology, an awards banquet, and much more; and <br /> <br />
