M<Y os M <br /> ~C~- a <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> f~ Oi ~M'+ <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 4'74 (~8 <br /> RESOLUTION CREATING ACUSTODIAN/GROUNDSKEEPER I (3/5T) POSITION <br /> FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS <br /> WHEREAS, the Civil Case Number 98-244, United Public Workers Union (UPW) versus the <br /> County of Hawaii, et al., relating to the privatization of janitorial and ground maintenance work, has <br /> been settled; and <br /> WHEREAS, the settlement calls for the County of Hawaii to hire UPW workers instead of <br /> contracting out for janitorial and grounds maintenance services; and <br /> WHEREAS, in order to comply with the civil settlement and to meet the maintenance needs <br /> of various County Departments and Agencies currently under private janitorial and groundskeeping <br /> services, the Department of Public Works has taken on the task to provide these services; and <br /> WHEREAS, of the twenty-one (21) new positions which have already been created for the <br /> Department of Public Works' Building Division, twelve (12) were for Custodian/Groundskeeper I <br /> positions (5 for Hilo, 5 for Kona, and 2 for Kohala); and <br /> WHEREAS, upon further review of the island-wide custodial and groundskeeping services <br /> requirements, it has been determined, due to the extensive travel time between South Hilo and <br /> Ka`u, that there should be a part-time Custodian/Groundskeeper I (3/5T) position stationed in Ka'u <br /> <br /> to service sites in Pahala, Na`alehu, Hawaiian Ocean View Estates and Pahoa; and <br /> WHEREAS, there should be sufficient funds to cover the salaries and wages of this new <br /> position; and <br /> <br />
