The project proposes to use fair
share assessment funding to construct traffic calming improvements on Ali'i Drive and
Haleki'i Street to mitigate the anticipated increase in vehicle traffic caused by the opening of
the Northern portion of the Mamalahoa Bypass. The opening of the Northern portion of the
Bypass and the use of Haleki'i Street makai of Kona Scenic Park would provide South Kona
motorists with an alternate route when traveling through Honalo, Kainaliu and Kealakekua
towns.
Some of the traffic calming measures includes widening the roadway pavement; restriping
the road; and installing speed humps, a signalized pedestrian crosswalk, portable traffic sign
equipment, and portable dynamic message boards.

If there are an''yy1 questions, please do not hesitate to call the Department of Public Works.

Y~
William Tak ba
Director of Finance

APPROVED:

( A-/
Harry Kim
Mayor
Gomm.
