If the youth start to understand where their food comes from, and
the difference in quality from locally grown organic vs. Costco processed factory food, they
will demand to have the better choice as adults, and support the farmers for it. Our two sons have been
in the Kohala public schools for years and we are starting a farm to address this issue. I am currently
applying for $400,000 worth of grant money from the USDA and the Rural Development Agency to
start an agricutural cooperative in Kohala to address the issue of food security for Hawaii by establishing
a model in Kohala that could be reproducible district by district throughout the state. The School
Gardens Network is another such effort and all our efforts support each other to accomplish the goal of
food security for Hawaii. Please support it with your votes and any assets at your disposal as Angel
Pilago has already done.
Kathie Pomeroy

Gomm No. 4s a. 8
Ref.
