No. 1017/Bi11247 PLACE: Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa 78-128 Ehukai St. Kailua-Kona, Hawaii TIME: 9:37 a.m. Council Chair and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Public Works & Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred in Communication 1017, regarding Bi11247, reports as follows: Bi11247, transmitted by Director of Public Works, Bruce McClure, via Communication No. 1017, dated February 1, 2008 amends Chapter 24, Article 10, Division 2, Section 24-265, Schedule 13 (Yield locations), subsection (c) South Hilo, of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005 Edition, as amended) by adding Ka` iulani Street at Southbound Approach to Bridge Number 23-3 (Reed's Island Bridge). There was no testimony from the public on this proposed amendment. Council Member Donald Ikeda stated he supports this proposed amendment, which will increase public safety through this one-lane bridge at the south end of the island. Mr. Ron Thiel, Traffic Division Chief, appeared before your Committee and stated that this traffic code amendment is based on the request by the Reed's Island community and that the yield condition is needed to address reckless driving and alert motorists unfamiliar with the one-lane bridge in the area.
